The remote uses 1 CR2025 – 3-volt battery. To access the battery, press the tab to remove slide out the battery tray and pop out the old and pop in the new battery. Slide the battery tray back in until it clicks, and it is ready to go. (If there is a thin, plastic piece (insulated sheet) coming out from the battery area, just remove that to allow the remote to work as that plastic piece keeps the battery life longer by disconnecting it from the electronics in the remote.)

The lights in the lantern use 3 AA (1.5 volt) batteries. The battery pack for the AA batteries is located underneath the lantern within the bowl at the base. You do not need to take apart the lantern to access the batteries. Just undo the side snaps to the plastic battery box to open the lid.
